Wow - I hadn't seen at least half of these before. re: the SEO discussion - I think that some people are making some serious progress along those lines, but it really does take planning and effort to do it successfully.

I have to say I am normally not a huge fan of flash website design, I get a bit prickly over load times, but that Darcmatter Labs site is amazing. As to the SEO problems, Erik is right flash sites can be indexed however it is going to take some determination on the part of your web development team. Thanks for the list.

Well, that's 3 comments on the SEO / crawler issue, but all the projects that I've worked on in the past few years, can be indexed by search engines. It's simply a little bit more work, but very doable combined with technologies like SWFAddress for instance.

some really fantastic looking sites here, i love flash site, just a shame a lot of them take so long to load, you kind of get bored going through the pages on some of them... im sure as internet speeds improve they will become more and more common though... the only other problem of course is SEO but i think sometimes its worth the sacrifice when creating an amazing site!

I agree with Web Artist's comment. Flash definitely has the wow factor, but we need more sophisticated search engine algorithms in order to index Flash and video content accurately. My guess is that site owners using only Flash based coding are having to use feeder sites for marketing purposes, since their Flash versions are not showing up in the search engines. Advancements in search engine technology are happening every day though, so it won't be long before all types of content can be indexed accurately.

Flash look really nice and pretty and all. But the biggest problem we face when you build a site in an all flash format is the lack of keyword rich content.
Allthough the site may be filled with text, If it is within an swf file a crawler bot will never read it.
Im a fan of flash. just not for the entire site.
